What you should know about Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive natural health care system that has been used in China for the thousands of years to preserve health and prevent illness. The potential benefits of acupuncture are widely recognized, and it has been increasing integrated with mainstream health care in the United States, since the 1970s. Doctor Tang uses acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, massage, exercise, and dietary and lifestyle recommendations to treat the root cause of disease, balance disharmonies and alleviate symptoms. Doctor Tang uses a sophisticated and complex system of diagnostic methods that take into consideration the person as a whole, discerning the body’s pattern of disharmony. The aim is not only to eliminate or alleviate symptoms, but more importantly treat the underlying cause, increase the ability to function and improve the quality of life.

How does acupuncture work?

Qi circulates throughout the body along specific pathways called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely, health is maintained. Once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness can occur. Acupuncture works to restore normal functions by stimulating the meridians with fine needles inserted into specific points in the body. TCM encourages the body to make natural changes. TCM can treat acute and chronic conditions and can help in many situations where Western medicine may have limited solutions. TCM not only treats illness, but can also prevent disease and help build the immune system.

Doctor Tang is trained in understanding natural laws and using these to diagnose and assist the body, mind and spirit to move back into full health. The goal of acupuncture is to respond to what a person is asking for on their deepest level. This examines the relationship between a person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

What to expect from a treatment

Doctor Tang begins with an interview about your health concerns. The interview includes a pulse and tongue diagnosis. You will lie down on a comfortable treatment table while very thin acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points on your body. You may feel the energy moving it is call Qi sensation. Doctor Tang may prepare an herbal prescription aimed specifically at treating your major complaints and harmonizing your condition. Some patients come for treatments several times a week while others only once a month. Most treatments last at least one hour.
